Michael Jordan is a retired professional basketball player widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina

Jordan attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played basketball under head coach Dean Smith. In his sophomore year, he made the game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA championship game, which earned him the nickname "Air Jordan."

In 1984, Jordan was selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls in the NBA draft. He quickly became a star player in the league, known for his scoring ability, athleticism, and competitive spirit. Jordan won his first NBA championship with the Bulls in 1991, and went on to win five more championships with the team in the 1990s.

Jordan's career was marked by numerous accolades and achievements. He won five NBA Most Valuable Player awards, ten scoring titles, and was named to the All-NBA First Team ten times. He was also a ten-time NBA All-Star and won two Olympic gold medals with the US men's basketball team.

Off the court, Jordan became one of the most marketable athletes in history, with lucrative endorsement deals and his own line of sneakers with Nike. He also became a minority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Charlotte Hornets) in 2006 and purchased the team outright in 2010.

Jordan retired from basketball in 2003 but returned to the NBA as a player in 2001 and 2002 for the Washington Wizards. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and currently serves as the principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets.
